I jumped from Version 11, which I had used for several years, to this one. I just finished a 2-hour movie covering a vacation trip with my grandkids to Universal Studios, Orlando Florida. They were blown away with the movie, especially considering the added special effects. Studio 18 was very adept at allowing the insertion of still photos, videos, music, sound effects, etc.
I had a few problems with rendering the sound, but was also having issues with my PC. Don't know where the blame truly lies, my 4 year old PC or Studio Don't like the fact that within 2 weeks after purchasing Version 18, the new Version 19 was released. Upgrade should have been FREE. One person found this helpful. This software is really pitiful. I experienced very poor performance and regular crashes some of that may have been my hardware, but I haven't had this problem with other video software.
The feature set is inadequate, and the controls are bad. I am an avid software user and even software developer , with experience with several DAWs and Video editing software, and this interface is hard to use. The editor insists on pre-rendering everything. When you add a video, it immediately embarks on a very lengthy pre-render process per clip. If you cut, it pre-renders both video clips from scratch. Make a small tweak to the picture?
It is incredibly painful and makes the video editing process unbearable. If I was making videos more than 5 minutes in length I would not be able to use this software at all. In fact, if you do not let it pre-render before you render, the video will be rendered without your changes! Talk about useless. Incredibly disappointed sums it up. Not worth the money I paid. This software crashes continually. If you are making a video from slides, you can only edit approximately 10 slides at a time, you are required to close the program and reopen the program, or the software crashes.
The ONLY good thing is that when you close and reopen the program it does save your edits. To input audio the default is set to approximately 20 hours. I have had a lot of experience with photo editing, but without my son's assistance who uses professional sound software I would have never been able to input the songs on this software.
Unless you have extensive experience, a ton of patience and time, I would not recommend this software.
